Arby’s Foundation Announces Executive Director Appointment
Kate Atwood to Lead Foundation’s New Direction
ATLANTA (August 26, 2011) – Nonprofit expert and founder of Kate’s Club, Kate Atwood has been appointed executive director of the Arby’s Foundation, a 501(c) (3) charitable foundation created by Arby’s 25 years ago. Ms. Atwood will oversee the implementation of a new mission direction for the foundation, which was unanimously agreed upon by a strategic task force of diverse foundation stakeholders, including representatives from Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc., the AFA Service Corporation, Arby’s Foundation board members and restaurant suppliers who donate to the foundation.
“Under Kate’s leadership, the Arby’s Foundation will focus on a mission to help end childhood hunger in America,” said Arby’s Foundation Chair, Hala Moddelmog. “Kate’s commitment to youth has been exemplified by her extraordinary career and her pure passion for the wellbeing of children. Kate was also part of the team that provided strategic direction in the modification of the Arby’s Foundation mission and programs, which now more closely mirror the values of our brand,” added Moddelmog, who is also president of Arby’s Restaurant Group, Inc.
Until recently, Ms. Atwood was a partner at Bcauz Marketing, an Atlanta-based cause-related marketing firm. Previously, Atwood served as the executive director of Kate’s Club, which she founded in 2003 and remains on the advisory board. The mission of Kate’s Club is to empower children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling. Ms. Atwood has been featured on CNN, The View, the Today Show, and People magazine and has won numerous awards and distinctions for her charitable efforts. In 2009, Penguin Books published Atwood’s book, co-authored with John Kelly, “A Healing Place.” She is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
“I am honored to join the Arby’s family and lead the foundation’s efforts toward significant impact in the communities we serve. The fact that 17 million children in America don’t have access to the food they need to grow is both devastating and unimaginable, but it is also solvable. The Arby’s Foundation will continue its commitment to our youth by concentrating our efforts on this pressing matter.”
